{something 29+1}: the place: home wine kitchen

Last night's celebration was simply wonderful. All of our closest friends from Kansas City, Dexter, and St. Louis--plus the dear friends all the way from Cincinnati and Memphis. It was truly one of the best birthdays ever.

I am going to posts the party in parts. Part 1: The Space. {note, with this feature, I'm also going to create and post a list of photos to take a 29+1 birthday celebration, as, per my usual, there were many shots I forgot to take}

The Place: Home Wine Kitchen in Maplewood. JV and I stumbled upon the place when they opened in June of this year. We needed someplace to grab a drink before heading to a Tivoli midnight showing. This place was close to our home, and we couldn't wait to check it out. The bar was open, and as we enjoyed our first glasses of wine, we got to know the owners--Josh and Cassy. Josh knows everything about wine; Cassy is a phenomenal chef. She changes her menu every week, she hosts No Menu Mondays, and her burger in the best burger I have ever eaten. I have been quoted as saying it's like velvet in my mouth. We frequent the place often. And, one night, we learned that they have an upstairs for parties.

The moment we checked it out, we fell in love. I knew: this was the space. All of the decorations in the space were designed and staged by yours truly. And get this--when I was in the process or decorating and setting up, Josh was showing the space to another potential client. And she was in love with my side of the room. He kindly reminded her that the decorations up in the space were not the work of Home Wine Kitchen, but by me. And perhaps I'd be willing to stage a party for her. You bet I would!

Oh. And the sign design is my work, too. I totally need a chalkboard wall in our home. The first photo is the actual restaurant, and I borrowed the photo from the restaurant website.

Thank you to everyone who was able to celebrate with us.

katie
